The Editor's Report, chapter by chapter

Which chapters are worst is the question a novelist actually has, and one whole-manuscript issue count can't answer it.

  • New Per-chapter breakdown in the Editor's Report (Inkcheck Pro) — a table of every chapter's word count, issue count, and issues per 1,000 words, so the chapter running at three times the book's average stops hiding inside the total
  • New Chapter headings are recognised from Word's Heading styles, Markdown # headings, all-caps lines, and bare or Roman numerals on their own line
  • New On a manuscript longer than one scan covers, chapters past the limit read not scanned rather than zero issues, and the chapter straddling the limit is rated over the part actually read
  • New Where chapter breaks can't be found — or where what looks like headings is really PDF page numbers — the report says so and explains how to mark them, instead of printing a confident table built on guesses

Word import, read aloud, and a sample chapter

Everything shipped since the summer, collected in one place — plus a correction to the v1.0 notes below.

  • New Word .docx import — headings survive as chapter markers and italics are preserved, and the file is unpacked in your browser rather than uploaded
  • New Read aloud (Inkcheck Pro) — your browser's built-in speech reads the manuscript back one sentence at a time, following along with a highlight
  • New Any installed system voice and five reading speeds from 0.75× to 2×, with Alt+P to start and pause
  • New Sample chapter — try the editor on a short demo draft with a full Standard scan, without loading work of your own or using a free monthly scan
  • New Inkcheck Pro is now a one-time $39 purchase — nothing renews, and your key activates on up to 5 devices
  • New Thank-you page after checkout — paste your key there and Pro is active without opening the editor first
  • New Feedback button in the editor — report a bug, suggest a feature, or send a note without leaving your manuscript
  • Fixed Custom word lists were saved but never loaded back — banned and watch words vanished on reload and stopped affecting the analysis. They persist between sessions again
  • Fixed The blurb generator took a .docx and read its raw file container as text — it now uses the same Word reader as the editor
  • Fixed Site copy corrected throughout — supported file types, the number of checks, the full Pro feature list, and how many words one scan covers
  • Fixed Correction to the v1.0 entry below, which listed ".doc file import" — Word 97–2003 .doc files have never been readable in the browser, and Inkcheck asks you to save as .docx instead

Testimonials removed from the landing page

The landing page carried six testimonials that did not come from real users, and structured data declaring a five-star rating based on them. Both are gone.

  • Fixed Six fabricated testimonials removed — the names, roles, and quotes were invented, not written by users
  • Fixed AggregateRating structured data removed — it reported a 5.0 rating from 6 reviews to search engines
  • New Feedback section in their place — states plainly that there are no reviews yet, and invites feedback at support@inkcheck.io or through the Feedback button in the editor

In-app upgrade flow & large manuscript support

Major improvements to how Inkcheck handles large manuscripts and how the upgrade experience works for new users.

  • New License modal now shows a full pricing comparison with direct buy links — no leaving the app to decide
  • New Context-aware locked feature messages — clicking a locked item shows copy specific to that feature
  • New Post-scan upsell banner for free users — shown after analysis, dismissed with one click
  • Improved Manuscript highlights now suppressed above 300 issues — the view stays readable at novel scale
  • Improved Clicking an issue from the list now jumps to and highlights that exact span in the manuscript
  • Improved Stats bar now shows "Showing 50 of X" when the top-N limit is active
  • Fixed snip is not defined crash in Sentence Variety check — Standard scan now works correctly
  • Fixed Duplicate Cloudflare script tag removed from app head
